No one in my family has been to Chicago since my great uncle went to the World's Fair of 1933. He was sent on a train with a shoe box full of brisket. It is a point of pride for my grandfather so I mention it now.
Chicago was an incredible experience. Over a thousand Young Democrats from all over the country converged on Chicago for YDA’s biennial convention. The convention boasted a slate of prominent national speakers, including leaders from the 111th Congress, notable activists and young people making a difference in America today. Among these were Gov. Howard Dean, Senator Richard Durbin, Congressman Mike Quigley, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, video messages from Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Bill Clinton, and many more.

I attended training sessions to help me become a more effective activist and prepared myself for a career in political campaigns and public service. Among such sessions I learned the ins and outs of the YDA organization, how to build up a chapter in numbers and advocacy, and college campus specific tips, tools, and ideas. On top of the world class training I received from talented young professionals, I also met and networked with not only the other delegates from my state (including College Democrats of America President Katie Naranjo), but with newly elected members from across the country such as the new chair of the college caucus Christopher Stergalas, and many other already important, impressive young people.
While in Chicago I also attended The Field Museum of Natural History,

Millennium Park,

as well as several hot dog stands and pizza places.
I would like to thank the Grayson County Democrats from the bottom of my heart. Their support was paramount. Without the small and large donations sent in the mail to my house, brought to me at work, or given to me on house calls that are still coming in this trip would not have been possible. A special thank you goes to Nancy Knapp, secretary of the party, for working tirelessly on my behalf even though she didn't have to. Thank you Nancy, your efforts do not go unnoticed and I appreciate you immensely.
